My Review
Oh…Mildred is mad now…
…but so is Tim!
* Utter mayhem! *
Obviously, and sadly, Anger is An Acid concludes the Patience of a Dead Man trilogy for all the Mildred fans out there. If you haven’t read this series yet, what are you waiting for?
Quick summary of what happened to this point:
Book 1: Tim Russell finds himself in a messy divorce where most assets went to his ex and he is looking for an investment property to fix up and make a turnaround on that investment. He falls for Holly, his realtor and purchases an abandoned farm, including unknowingly, ghosts of the past who sill roam the property. Mildred makes her first entrance in this book, testing Tim’s and Holly’s relationship right from the get go.
Book 2: Tim has worked among a ghost story that has unfolded around him to renovate this house and is trying to sell it. It is not going well. In the meantime, the reader learns of Mildred’s past and how she became who she is and what has been her driving force. When a radio station and a shady police officer get involved, the story takes on another edge that adds to Tim’s grief. People are turning up dead….and Mildred has her hands in it.
Here we go…the culmination of it all!
Book three starts of swift and with a bang. Mildred is making it personal and Tim’s ex wife turns up dead. But oh no…it is not in Tim’s favor…quite the opposite. She has taken something from him that is most precious: his girls. They are missing.
Tim has no idea. He learns of the missing girls via a film crew interested in filming the so called enigma of Mildred on the farm. If that wasn’t enough, there are curious followers wanting to camp out on his property to assist in catching Mildred in action.
When Tim receives an offer to purchase the house, for cash, to some sensation seeking movie producer and a young funeral director shows up who is haunted by his mother, Tim is slowly putting the puzzle pieces together…but not before a bloody confrontation with Mildred.
She is mad!
Tim and Holly are thoroughly tested! What new relationship can withstand this much mayhem?
Will they be able to save the girls and live happily ever after?
***
This novel reads swift and knocks the events out in shorter chapters and small cliffhangers. In the culmination of everything that has happened, the pov switches back and forth to go along with a suspenseful plot. Whereas book one was in part mystery and book two dove into occult and witchcraft, this novel speeds to the finish line…one dead body after another. It’s wicked, tense and razor sharp.
If there is anything I could change about the novel, I would have liked it to go on and on for a while longer. I know it’s weird, but I have taken a liking to Mildred’s character.
Overall I liked the ideas and changes each novel brought to the table. I thought this last book took it home nicely, with that last twist and wrath between the ghosts.
Now, I want to take a trip and visit that house. I think Mildred will stay with me for a while and tucked in my bookshelf for a time in the future to reread. Loved the trilogy! A definite treasure.
I highly recommend it,
