Ready for a spooky read?

The autumn season is upon us and this YA thriller is the perfect book to get into the mood for it. Absolutely fabulous, super fun, and engaging, a great mystery with puzzling moments. With a bit of luck, your power might even cut out while you are reading, as mine did and it was perfect!

My Skull Possession is a book about a book that leads to the death of the reader in its possession. It is garnering quite a name for itself as more and more people seem to become obsessed with it which in turn, becomes the ultimate sensation for the believers and nonbelievers of the supernatural. What is it about this book?

Brighton is a high school student and bookworm. She lives with her mom next to some serious Halloween eccentrics who take their obsessions to the next level - overkill. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her new friend Kate, who has moved into town within the last year and whose parents own a bookshop. Perfect!

Kate has a secret past with former obsessions and dark curiosities. It is one of the reasons her parents moved towns. When she pushes her friend Brighton to read “the book” everyone is fearing, Brighton has no idea what she is getting into.

The mystery evolves when Brighton is giving it a go. As she reads passages from the old book, from 1945, events and strange scares seem to happen around. The town is in an uproar with the deaths of people in possession of the book and partially blame Kate’s parents, who sell the book in their store.

Brighton and Kate try to solve the mystery behind the book and the person distributing it to the local shops. Their investigations take them from cemeteries to curiosity shops. When Brighton separates from her friend to pursue a lead, it all turns quite dangerous and the girls' friendship and lives hang on the line.

Can they solve this old riddle that could be a weapon of vendetta? And will they survive?

***

This was so good. A clean good read, scares and mystery, and nothing to not like about it. I enjoyed how the author build anticipation and tension from page one and where it lead, was a whole different ball game. This is not a slay’em up, brutal horror novel, instead it hones in on the intentional execution of words to create a thrilling buzz and atmospheric page-turner without reliance on the horrific. A great read for teens and fans of thriller/mysteries.

Is this the perfect spooky read? YES!

This will make an awesome gift to give - I am selecting my receiving victims as I write. Can’t wait to find out what they think.
