Propulsive and addictive, The Other Mrs. is the twisty new psychological thriller from Mary Kubica, the New York Times bestselling author of The Good Girl

She tried to run, but she can't escape the other Mrs....

Sadie and Will Foust have only just moved their family from bustling Chicago to small-town Maine when their neighbor Morgan Baines is found dead in her home. The murder rocks their tiny coastal island, but no one is more shaken than Sadie.

But it’s not just Morgan’s death that has Sadie on edge. And as the eyes of suspicion turn toward the new family in town, Sadie is drawn deeper into the mystery of what really happened that dark and deadly night. But Sadie must be careful, for the more she discovers about Mrs. Baines, the more she begins to realize just how much she has to lose if the truth ever comes to light.

My Review

Brace yourselves for crazy made in heaven!

Sadie and Will move with their two children from Chicago to Maine into the house that was left to Will after the death of his sister. With that house comes his highly disturbed teenage niece to take care of who is borderline delinquent and has an attitude towards adults.

Sadie is trying to adjust to this new life in her town that requires a ferry to and from to get to the mainland. Only too often the ferry is late and delayed due to bad weather, something the islanders are used to and a convenience for those needing to cover something up or not come home.

One evening, a neighbor woman is found dead and some animosities towards Sadie the new neighbor are starting to stir. As Sadie decides to investigate the woman's death, she makes some eerie discoveries and thinks she has figured out what has happened.

In the meantime, Will's niece is not coming around to Sadie and their own son is starting to have some problems in school. As it goes when tensions rise, the couple begins to argue and bring up stuff from the past like Will's affair and each of them blames the other for their current situation.

What makes this thriller so convoluted and head-spinning are the different elements that come together and pose problems and plausible possibilities. Sadie's investigations lead her to corruption in the police, skeptical townspeople, an abandoned house, and more evidence against her husband's unfaithfulness. Their son is bringing knives to school because he was told to stand up for himself, and the niece may be a prime instigator or witness to past and present crimes.

Sadie, as well as the reader, has to figure out what the real scenarios are and understand the possible boycotts along the way. It's tricky when you read Sadie's thought patterns and add it up with her husband's part of the story. Things don't add up!

The end, however, turns out very satisfying and I liked how the author made such a mess of things to figure this out. Redemption will be served, no doubt...but first you must read through the convoluted jungle of this marriage that seems to be followed by bad luck, and dirty secrets

Enjoy!

Happy Reading :)
